Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to our most frequently asked questions:

Why should I choose Axiom?

You may have noticed the explosion of tutor businesses, both on the high street, and online. They're literally everywhere! So, what makes us so different? One of the many things that set us apart from our competitors, are our staff. Axiom's teachers are amongst the highest qualified and experienced in the profession. They have very successful careers in industry. They don't just teach, they put their valuable skills and education to use in the real world too. We know that many children have struggled and have had a belly full of online/remote learning, Axiom prides itself on using the best teachers, subject matter experts, to put in front of your child, not a computer. Combine all this with a stunning Victorian period property, that quite literally resembles an art gallery or museum, you really do have the best environment for your child that is conducive to learning. Come and see for yourself, you've nothing to lose!

Where in Halifax are you?

Half of a mile from the town centre, very convenient with plenty of free on and off-street parking. Please see our contact us page for the address, maps, directions and contact information.

What are your opening times?

Tuition, course dates and times, are published on each course page.

Are your tutors DBS checked?

When recruiting new tutors, we select only the best by using a rigorous recruitment process, which involves a detailed application form, face to face interview and an enhanced DBS check.

How experienced are your tutors?

Our tutor base is highly experienced, with many having worked in teaching for over 10+ years. With a large proportion also being examiners or department heads, our tutors are able to provide students with invaluable insights and perspective as a result of their additional experience.

What are the tutors qualifications?

All our tutors are fully qualified teachers, all of which are University educated with a PGCE qualification. Unlike many other companies, we do not employ students or trainee teachers.

How big are your classes?

Our class sizes have a maximum of just 4 students. Often there are two teachers, ensuring you get value for money and your child gets all the attention they deserve! Keeping class sizes this small ensures that not only do we not dilute quality, but your child gets exactly the right amount of support they require. We feel that this creates a good balance of support whilst encouraging your child to work independently and gain confidence.

How far in advance do I have to book?

The sooner the better. Due to our extremely small class sizes, courses tend to fill up quickly. Please do not re-arrange your commitments without booking with us first and receiving your confirmation email.

How many classes does my child have to attend?

You can attend as many or as few as you like. We offer tuition and courses in English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry & Biology. Your child can choose which classes they would like to attend each week. Ideally, we recommend that your child attends 2 to 3 classes per week, but ultimately, it's your choice.

How does your 'It's as easy as 1 2 3' system work?

We offer 3 methods of tuition at Axiom for Primary, GCSE & A-Level. For Primary we offer 1) Homework Clubs, 2) Taught Lessons and 3) Private 1 to 1 Tuition. For GCSE & A-Level we offer 1) Taught Lessons, 2) Private 1 to 1 Tuition and 3) 5-Day intensive revision courses. You simply choose the way (or combination of ways) that you would like your child to study. Private 1 to 1 Tuition can be done remotely/online if you wish, but we would always advise that your child attends in person where possible. Times, Dates and Prices can be found on individual course pages.

When and how often do I pay?

We kindly ask that you pay weekly or monthly in advance. If you want your child to attend more classes, then you can simply pay for the additional classes at the time they take them.

Do I need to pay if I have to cancel a lesson?

Please give us as much notice as you possibly can, we ask for 24 hour's notice to avoid paying for that particular lesson. Our class sizes are very small, and our places are limited, so the more notice, the better please. In the case of emergencies, there will obviously be no charge.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major debit and credit cards, cash, bank transfers, direct debits and standing orders.

Are there any contracts?

None whatsoever, you can cancel you child's place and withdraw them at any time without penalty. A bit of notice would be appreciated though but is not strictly necessary.

I left school years ago and without many qualifications, will I find it difficult on your Adult Education courses?

This is a question asked by many people prior to taking our Adult Education courses. The answer is an emphatic 'no' you will not. Our courses are taught by qualified teachers who have a wealth of experience working with people across the age and ability range. Patience, dedication and enthusiasm are hallmarks of our success to date.

What is the teachers role?

Our teachers are the most important factor in your progress at Axiom. All of our teachers are trained in the curriculum and teach using a range of interactive resources that adapt to your abilities, challenging you at exactly the right level. By getting to know your learning style, our staff also play an essential role in boosting your confidence and motivation for learning.

How will the courses be delivered?

We pride ourselves on delivering first class training programs. To achieve this, we use qualified professionals and state of the art ICT. The lesson format is via high quality, industry leading presentations. You will be provided with lesson notes which are duplicates of the presentation itself. This method of delivery is highly desirable as it eliminates the need to take notes, thereby enabling you to focus fully on the lecture. There are also times when we defer to good old fashioned ‘chalk and talk’, where it is preferable and indeed necessary.

Our learning resources are designed to be interactive and engaging for you whilst providing the teacher with a fantastic tool for recording your progress.

I have a disability, what provisions are made?

We make every effort to accommodate our clients with disabilities. It is essential that you contact us in advance of booking so that we can discuss your exact needs.

Is there any parking available?

Yes, we offer limited free off-street parking at our venue and there's plenty of free on street parking at the side of the venue.
